Nolcom uproots nearly P1 billion MJ in Tinglayan

CAMP SERVILLANO AQUINO, Tarlac City – Close to P1 billion worth of marijuana were uprooted and destroyed in Kalinga province by the Northern Luzon Command (NOLCOM) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

Major Al Anthony Pueblas, group commander of the 1st Civil Relations Group of the Civil Relations Service of the AFP said the operation conducted on May 7 was part of the COPLAN “High Impact Joint Marijuana Eradication (HIGHLANDER)” on coordination with the Tactical Operations Group 2 (TOG 2) of the Philippine Air Force.

Pueblas said the operation at Mt. Chumanchil in Tinglayan resulted in the uprooting and destruction of 1,575 kilograms of dried marijuana, 3,349,500 fully grown marijuana plants, with an estimated total land area of 195,100 square meters with an approximate value of P861,900,000 – marking it as the largest single marijuana eradication in recent history.

“The challenging terrain and remote location of Mt. Chumanchil demanded air insertion for effective logistical support, making the role of TOG 2 instrumental in the success of the mission,” said Pueblas.

Pueblas added with the help of the TOG 2 headed by group commander Col. Glenn Piquero who facilitated crucial air operations, including aerial reconnaissance, personnel insertion, extrication and transportation of necessary supplies and equipment using different air assets ensured safe and efficient airfield control and security during the mission.

NOLCOM commander Lt. Gen. Fernyl Buca meanwhile commended the successful collaboration among various agencies, including the Special Operations Unit Cordillera and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, in the operation as well as the efficient utilization of air assets highlighting the capabilities and professionalism of TOG 2 in contributing to law enforcement efforts against illicit drug activities.
