Baguio City officials lauded Hidenodu Oguni, president of the Filipino-Japanese Foundation, Inc. of Northern Luzon for initiating and spearheading the Tanabata festival in celebration of Filipino-Japanese Friendship Day.
In a resolution authored by Councilor Betty Lourdes Tabanda, the local government expressed appreciation for Uguni’s works and wishes him all the best in his next pursuit as he will be leaving the city very soon.
Under Resolution No. 237, series of 2010, July 23 of every year was declared as Filipino-Japanese Friendship Day in the city to commemorate the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Japan.
One of the highlights of this year’s celebration of the Filipino-Japanese Friendship Day was the Tanabata festival which was initiated by Mr. Uguni, president of the Filipino-Japanese Friendship Foundation, Inc. of Northern Luzon.
The council said its 11 years, the Tanabata festival consisted of activities like the Tanabata decoration workshop, paper craft workshop, film festival, exhibits and other cultural activities involving the youth, the elderly, and the entire community, fostering a deeper understanding of Japanese culture.
During his tenure, Uguni was able to consistently demonstrate professionalism, creativity and unwavering passion for excellence and love for the city and its culture, including in his collaboration with the Baguio Museum.
Baguio was able to connect with the City of Kanazawa in Japan since both cities are recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as Creative Cities for Crafts and Folk Arts. Baguio City Public Information Office
