BANGUED, Abra — More Abrenian students continue to receive support under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations- Educational Assistance Program (AICS EAP) of the government.
A total of 1,889 more student beneficiaries received P5,000 educational assistance during a payout activity on July 19, 2023 at the University of Abra Social Hall in Bangued.
This payout which is scheduled until July 20 is the third batch of the distribution of financial assistance to accommodate a total of 5,171 eligible Abrenian students.
The educational assistance with P26-million fund is being implemented through the partnership of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Office of Congresswoman Menchie Bernos to help students with their school expenses such as supplies, fees, and allowance, among others.
Bernos, in her message to the beneficiaries during the third batch of payout, shared that the government is doing its best to serve the eligible beneficiaries. Almost 6,000 students applied for the assistance in her office, she said.
“Best effort nga kayat ko nga amin nga nag-apply idiay office ko ket ma-payout-an. We have the first batch, second batch, and third batch. Ar-aramiden met ti DSWD ti trabaho da nga ag-crossmatching ti names yo nu nakaawat kayo idi January aginggana this month,” she explained.
The Congresswoman also said that this yearly program that aims to aid the educational needs of the Abrenian youth is her gift especially to the graduating students. She shared plans to include high school students in the distribution of assistance.
Niezel Dheidre Daguisan who is among the beneficiaries is thankful for the timely assistance that would help cover her tuition fee especially that she is seven months pregnant.
Daguisan from Malibcong is currently a first year college student taking up Bachelor of Science in Education at the University of Abra where 82 percent of the total beneficiaries come from.
The Education Assistance Program is a social protection initiative of the government to help children of indigent families in their education-related expenses. This is part of the AICS program that assists individuals, families, and communities under crisis situations. PIA – CAR
